FAQ

What's the difference between the two download options?

The auto-runner ensures that you are always running the latest version of EMC Shopkeeper. Every time it launches, it checks for a new version, and downloads it if one is available. But occasionally, the auto-runner file itself ("emc-shopkeeper.jnlp") has to be updated, in which case you'll have to manually download a fresh copy. The downside to using the auto-runner is that it requires additional security rights which some computers block.

The full JAR file can be run on any computer. The downside to this is that it does not automatically update like the auto-runner does. If an update is available, EMC Shopkeeper will tell you when it starts up, in which case you will have to download the new JAR file manually.

I clicked on "Auto-Run", but all I see is a bunch of weird text.

This is because the file is being opened by your web browser instead of by Java. Go to "File > Save" and save the file somewhere on your computer. Then, right-click the file and select "Run As > Java" (or some variant thereof).

When I run EMC Shopkeeper, it's warning me that EMC Shopkeeper may harm my computer. Will it?

EMC Shopkeeper is virus and malware free. It will not harm your computer. But while EMC Shopkeeper is safe, not all JAR files are safe! As always, you should exercise extreme caution when downloading software from the internet.

Why does EMC Shopkeeper need my EMC password? Will you steal it?

EMC Shopkeeper needs your password into order to logon to your EMC account and download your rupee transaction history. Your password is not logged, recorded, or stolen in any way. If you select the "Save password" checkbox when entering your credentials into EMC Shopkeeper, it will save your password to your hard drive.

If you feel unsafe about giving EMC Shopkeeper your password, you can change your password temporarily, and then change it back when you are done using EMC Shopkeeper.

How do I download the transactions of my alt account?

If you have alt accounts and would like to download the transaction histories for them as well, you will need to create separate profiles for them. Do NOT simply enter different login credentials at the login prompt when you click the "Update Transactions" button! Each profile is only designed to hold the transactions of a single account.

To load EMC Shopkeeper under a different profile, run the following steps:

  1. Click on the "main menu" button in the upper-left corner, point to "Settings", and click "Show Profiles On Startup".
  2. Close EMC Shopkeeper and re-open it.
  3. A profile dialog will appear. Type in the name of your new profile, then click "OK".

I'm on a Mac and I can't use the auto-runner!

You may have trouble auto-running the application if you're on a Mac. That's because EMC Shopkeeper is not signed with a certificate from an official certificate authority. In this case, you will need to download the full JAR file instead.

I'm on a Mac and I can't run the JAR file!

Double-clicking the JAR file may display a security warning, which prevents you from running it.

To get around this, do the following:

  1. Right-click on the JAR file.
  2. Select "Open" while holding down the "Control" key
  3. Click the "Open" button at the warning dialog.

You only have to do this once, and then once again every time the file changes (i.e. when you update EMC Shopkeeper).

How do I transfer all my transaction info to another computer?

EMC Shopkeeper stores all of its data in a directory called ".emc-shopkeeper", located in the root of your user directory. Simply copy this directory to the user directory of the other computer and you're set! Below is the full path to the directory in each operating system (replace "USERNAME" with your username):

  • Windows XP and below: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\.emc-shopkeeper
  • Windows Vista and above: C:\Users\USERNAME\.emc-shopkeeper
  • Mac OS X: /Users/USERNAME/.emc-shopkeeper
  • Linux: /home/USERNAME/.emc-shopkeeper

Changelog

0.5.27 - February 24, 2021
  • Fixed an error that prevented EMC Shopkeeper from starting up.
0.5.26 - January 23, 2021
  • Item name/icon fixes.
  • Due to an incorrect item name mapping, EMC Shopkeeper has been treating all transactions for "Grass" items as if they were "Grass Block" items. This has been happening since EMC's 1.13/1.14/1.15 update. The issue will be corrected for all downloaded transactions going forward, but unfortunately there is no way to correct this issue for transactions that have already been ingested into EMC Shopkeeper's database.
0.5.25 - December 20, 2020
  • Added 1.16 items.
  • Tweaked transaction download performance: Multiple threads are created to download and parse the rupee transaction pages from the EMC website. Before, the number of threads was hard-coded to 4. Now, it sets the thread count to match the number of logical cores on your computer (which for some people, may be higher than 4). If your computer has fewer than 4 cores, the thread count is set to 4 as before.
  • Added the ability to define your own download thread count from the Settings menu (not necessary for most people, for power users only).
0.5.24 - December 6, 2020
  • Fixed an issue where parts of the login dialog and bonus/fee table were being cut off.
  • Fixed a crash that would occur with users whose Windows username had spaces in it.
0.5.23 - October 4, 2020
  • Fixed an issue where Wood blocks were being treated as if they were Log blocks when parsed from the rupee transaction history (e.g. "Oak Wood" was being converted to "Oak Log") (related to next bullet point).
  • Added time-bounded item name mappings to the rupee transaction history parsing logic. This increases the accuracy of item name detection by allowing it to be cognisant of the different names an item has been called throughout time.
    • For example, in the past, Oak Logs were referred to as "Oak Wood" in the transaction history. However, with the release of 1.13, "Oak Wood" became a new, separate item. It now knows that all "Oak Wood" transactions before EMC's 1.13 upgrade refer to the "Oak Log" block, whereas all such transactions after EMC's upgrade refer to the "Oak Wood" block.
    • Another example is Smooth Sandstone: In 1.13, the block was renamed to "Cut Sandstone" and an entirely new block called "Smooth Sandstone" was added. It now knows that all "Smooth Sandstone" transactions before EMC's 1.13 upgrade actually refer to the "Cut Sandstone" block.
  • A few item name fixes.
0.5.22 - August 23, 2020
  • Added color formatting to items that have colored names. For example, "Dragon Stone" is now colored purple.
  • Fixed an issue with the "--query" CLI command where it would fail if no date range was specified.
  • Added a CLI command for exporting every transaction in the database to a CSV file.
  • Minor item name fixes.
0.5.21 - July 16, 2020
  • Fixed an issue where the "New version available" button would appear when the user was running the latest version.
  • Item name additions and fixes.
0.5.20 - May 12, 2020
  • Fixed an issue that prevented EMC Shopkeeper from downloading transactions that were one week old or older. This would happen if the user's EMC account was configured to display time in 24-hour format.
0.5.19 - May 3, 2020
  • Fixed an issue where the settings file couldn't be read due to a character encoding issue, which prevented EMC Shopkeeper from starting up.
  • During the first update, instead of all old payment transactions being ignored, only those that do not have reasons are ignored.
  • Redesigned the first update dialog so that the settings descriptions are displayed in labels instead of tooltips.
  • The first update dialog is now shown before the user is prompted to login.
  • Fixed the following item icons: Brown Mushroom Block, Firework Rocket, Red Mushroom Block, Wheat Seeds
0.5.18 - April 16, 2020

    • Ignores duplicate transactions. You don't have to set move perms to false on your res anymore in order to prevent new transactions appearing while you are downloading them.
